FOSSILS

This is what happens when you get stuck for too long at the same spot...in your old habits...you become a fossil.

ARMY ANTS

The army raid will seek out and capture mostly spiders and insects, such as caterpillars, millipedes, cockroaches, or katydids. The army will attack other ant colonies and wasp nests. Vertebrates with any speed are usually able to escape these arthropod predators, but when given the opportunity the ants will pursue frogs, lizards and snakes.

RAINBOW EUCALYPTUS

Patches of outer bark are shed annually at different times, showing a bright green inner bark. This then darkens and matures to give blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones. The previous season’s bark peels off in strips to reveal a brightly colored new bark below. The peeling process results in vertical streaks of red, orange, green, blue and gray.

THE ROCK DIVER - LE PÊCHEUR DE ROCHES

Every now and then here in Cabuya, there is a dog that follows you. He keeps you company for a while, like a guardian angel. That day, it was this cute puppy. He was diving for rocks, taking them out of the water.

PLAYA GRANDE

The most beautiful beach I've ever seen...A 40 minutes hike from Montezuma, passing through Piedra Colorada (Balanced rock sculpture garden), Nicolás Wessberg Natural Reserve, and a seaturtle nesting beach, is Playa Grande. Gigantic, really long, broad, flat, and pure sand beach. No roads, no resorts, no houses, no camping allowed. Pure nature.

HERMIT CRABS

Hermit crab on my kitchen counter with Miles Davis "Ascenseur pour l'Échafaud" playing in the background.

Sometimes I film bugs with a micro lens on my iPhone. The result is interesting and a bit gross.

LIVING FENCE

“Live fences”. Brilliant idea. You see it a lot here. Trees planted close together with barbed wire woven between the trees. Very low maintenance. They cut branches off...or not.

ISLA CABUYA

An island reachable by foot at low tide. Right close to home, in Cabuya. In the middle of the island there is a cemetery, and vultures... I go there often.
